Awaiting Memory

I’ve rewound time and reviewed personal imagery of thousands of photographs over the last ten years.  The resulting works have allowed me the opportunity to reconstruct, question, objectify and comment on images that I've viewed my entire life. 

Photographs become the essence of what I believed was real -- a shorthand witness to generations of family behaviour and attitude.  It has been important for me to scrutinize these images in order to reassess – and painting allowed me the distance and intimacy required to do that.
